St. Cloud Diocesan Council of Catholic Women at 25008 Mary St., Paynesville, MN 56362 US - FERGUS FALLS/WADENA DEANERY

FERGUS FALLS/WADENA DEANERY

by Carmen Pederson

Warmest greetings to all of the Summer 2010 from our Fergus Falls/Wadena Deanery. Wadena has been the hardest hit of the "Tornado Devastation", and had been busy with helping friends and neighbors cope with the situations.

Our Spring Deanery meeting held April 17, 2010 at St. Edward Parish in Henning was a great success highlighting the presentation of our guest speaker from Quilts of Valor, Minnesota, "Quilting Honor and Comfort for our Wounded Soldiers".

Paulette Hoebelheinrich of Fergus Falls, and Irene Craig of St. James Chapter did an awesome job relating the history behind this project, and how and why they volunteered to do it. Fr. Greg Paffel had a great homily for all of us.

Many "Women" today valued the gospel last Sunday, July 18, 2010-about Mary and Martha who were considered good examples and remembered of their great importance in the Early Christian Community Tradition of our Church. To be remembered by name made people stand out and for women to be remembered by name and make visible in history because it is one of the few stories about women who preserved their rights with good moral values and virtues.

So, we must not underestimate the role of women in our society today, we can be like Martha who works and serves, and Mary who listens, and who has a strong faith.

In a positive interpretation here-Jesus frees Martha from overburdening herself with services and hospitality-well, this is quite good news for "contemporary moms, while
Mary has allowed us to move forward with faith and joy.

The Fun, Food Fund Day held in St. Augustine Parish, at St. Cloud was a great success as well. This was an event that Wadena members will always remember due to the devastation of the tornado in Wadena that happened last June 17, 2010.

Well, the unexpected always happens, but Wadena, Bluffton, Deer Creek were very fortunate that lives were spared in spite of its F4 rating damages.

Fergus Falls/Wadena Board Meeting will be held in Henning on Sept. 16, 2010 for the up coming events-Fergus Falls/Wadena Fall Deanery that will be on October 16, 2010 at Battle Lake, Minnesota. More details follows by e-mail.

Our Spring Deanery report was posted late, and for more about it contact Julie Moorhead, julimoorhead@meltel

The Spring Fergus Falls/Wadena Deanery Board Meeting was held in March 17, 2010 at St. Edward's Parish in Henning. Members present were: Fr. Greg Paffel-Moderator, Marilyn Stenger-Past President, Judy Strege-Secretary, Eva Koep-Past Province Director. President-Carmen Pederson was not able to attend due to illness.

The minutes of the meeting were provided by our secretary as follows: There were several items of concern: Posted date for the Spring Deanery, and Nominations of Officers: Vice-President and Treasurer.

A change was made to hold the Spring Deanery on Saturday, April 17, 2010, to be able to have the following covered at the event. Part of the agenda
was the nomination of Vice-President which resulted to no votes. As for the Treasurer, Marilyn Stenger was nominated, and the majority voted, making her
as our official Treasurer. The rest of coverage of the meeting will be tabled upon to finalize the set up of our officers before the Fall Deanery.

The Past Treasurer-Debbie Kern handed the Treasurer's Report to Marilyn Stenger-the newly elected Treasurer. Eva Koep also did a short message of "Paying Way to Province" an upcoming event in June 24-25, 2010. All of the events will be posted in the Spring bulletin.

The highlights of the event was the presentation of our guest speakers from Quilts of Valor Minnesota, "Quilting Honor & Comfort for our Wounded."
Our guest speakers: Paulette Hoebelheinrich of Fergus Falls Chapter, and Irene Craig of St. James Chapter did an awesome job in their representation especially the story that related each one of their lives, and why they volunteered to do it, and also letting us all be informed that there are four basic ways to get involved in the Quilts of Valor process, and that one doesn't need to involve sewing!

Beautiful quilts were displayed, products of the members' effort  sharing their fundraising of giving quilts to the soldiers who were wounded at war.

If interested to join, please visit for more detailed information at www.govf.org or contact Paulette Hoebelheinrich at home- 218-736-3272, at work-218-739-7772, Penny Miller at 998-4560, Gail
