  YEAR FOR PRIESTS

St. Cloud Diocesan Council of Catholic Women at 25008 Mary St., Paynesville, MN 56362 US - MELROSE/SAUK CENTRE DEANERY

MELROSE/SAUK CENTRE DEANERY

by Jean Hopfer

Our Spring Board meeting was held at St. Joseph Church in Grey Eagle on Mar. 27th and the Spring General meeting was held on Apr. 24th, hosted very graciously by St. Hedwig’s Christian Women of Holdingford. Both groups did a great job and had scrumptious food for the registration gathering and also for the noon meal at St. Hedwig’s.

For the program at the general meeting - Fr. Greg Ombok spoke about his life in Africa, how he realized he was being called to be a priest, and his coming to Stearns County Minnesota. Fr. Bob Landsberger, a retired priest living in St. Wendel, graciously helped us out by presiding at the Mass, since Fr. Ombok had a funeral Mass that day.

The third issue of the Newsletter was made available in June. It was either mailed or e-mailed to all the deanery officers, commission chairs and co-chairs, moderators, parish presidents and some diocesan officers. It was also posted on the diocesan website by Julie Moorhead, and a notice placed in the church bulletins that it was available to download. We are getting into a better routine for producing it and we’re able to get it out earlier.

We have a committee set up to plan a tour of 8 of the 22 churches in our deanery. It is being planned for Aug. 10th, and will be a car-van caravan tour. Details are being finalized and notices will be sent to all the parishes in the deanery and to the area
newspapers. We are hoping for a good response and that all who join will enjoy it.

Our nominating committee is still attempting to find women who will accept the call to volunteer for the position of vice-president and three commission co-chair positions. The commission co-chair positions are: Community, Legislation and Rural.   Hopefully our committee will be able to find capable and willing candidates to fill these positions so they can be installed at the fall meeting.

Many of our members attended the Fun, Food, and Fund Day at St. Augustine Church in East St. Cloud on June 17th and also the Province Conference held at St. Mary’s in Alexandria. Both events were well planned and I’m sure enjoyed by all. I especially appreciated Dr. Sri’s talk about the Rosary, and the Legislative Commission presentation by Lester Noll on the Minnesota Catholic Conference report and guide.

And of course, the biggest event on our up-coming calendar is hosting the DCCW annual convention on Sept. 18th at Sacred Heart Church in Freeport. We have many of the committee assignments in place and will finalize the duties for the parishes after this summer DCCW Board meeting. We look forward to hosting the event and being spiritually and educationally enlightened.

Our fall Board and General meeting dates have been scheduled and details will be finalized at a later date.
