HISTORIAN
Pat Kasella
We have all heard the saying “yesterday is history” but next year will you remember what happened yesterday? I think I am safe in saying that many of us suffer from “information overload”—we forget to do something, or can’t remember where that place was we put something so we knew right where it would be when we needed it!
“Pictures speak a thousand words” is another common saying but are your photos stashed in a box like some of mine are? More and more, it is important to document, either in writing or on film, events in our lives, sometimes just for the fun of reflecting back on it, but unfortunately, sometimes for legal reasons.
Keeping a history book or scrapbook of events in your council, your life, or your children’s life, is not only interesting, it has become an essential part of our lives in this fast-paced, ever changing world.
For example, did you know . . ?
· The National Council of Catholic Women was founded in 1919 at the call of the American Catholic Bishops and consists of more than 5,000 affiliated Catholic Women’s organizations
· The National Council of Catholic Women is a member of the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organization
· The St. Cloud Diocesan Council of Catholic Women was established in 1953 under the guidance of Bishop Peter W. Bartholome
· Bishop Bartholome appointed Fr. Harold Kost as the first moderator of the St. Cloud Diocesan Council of Catholic Women
· Fr. Harold Kost served as its moderator from 1953 - 1999
· Every Catholic woman is a member of the Council of Catholic Women by decree of the Bishop
Take time now and then to dig out those books and bring them to a meeting for all to enjoy; reminisce with fellow or new Councilwomen over a cup of coffee; or maybe even bring back a project that has fallen by the wayside.
